ALEX McKOWN BAND

 

Alex McKown is a four-time finalist in the British Blues Awards (2014, 2013, 2012 & 2014 ). Tracks from his album have been played on radio stations all over the world including Paul Jones' infamous R&B show on BBC Radio 2.

In addition, Alex is featured on compilation CDs "The Cream of Electric Blues" & "Suitcase Full O'Blues”, together with artists such as Joe Bonamassa, Walter Trout, Robert Cray and The Royal Southern Brotherhood. 

Alex was also featured in The Blues Magazine "Ones to watch in 2014 - the artists you need to know" and got a 7 star review for "Go with the Flow”, his new album of original songs.

After their sell-out show at The Bear Club in January (and their sell-out tour everywhere!), we are thrilled welcome back this six-piece extravaganza of rootsy fun. 

The natural born, ‘self-made’ showmen CC Smugglers have worked their way up from young street performers to playing some of the biggest festivals and venues in the UK and Europe. The band has become renowned for producing fresh and unafraid blends of old-time/world-folk styles & instrumentation; hitting home the unique and contemporary British songwriting with skill, charisma and passion.

Luton’s jazz initiative 'Focus On Jazz', founded by DJ/Dancer Perry Louis, presents a new residency of the popular Jazz Jam, now housed at The Bear Club. 

Last Sunday of the month. Every month. 


FURSDAY 30 APRIL

The Bear is proud to play hose to one of the UK's finest jazz pianists, Simon Wallace, accompanying the vocals of Luton's own Konni Deppe. 

Tonight, Simon and Konni will be performing songs by ‘Mack the Knife’ writer Kurt Weill, material by the witty American composer Dave Frishberg, and a whole host of jazz standards you’ll know and love.
