HAPPY SHARK COMEDY presents…

MOON
One of the breakthrough acts of this year's Edinburgh Festival, Moon are a provincial double-act who lob out bizarre little skits. "The start of a cult comedy career, maybe more" - Chortle "Wonderfully warped" - The Scotsman

PHIL ELLIS (MC)
Possibly the most unpredictable and exciting act in the UK! Phil is a genius! Phil is the brains behind Funz and Gamez, the kid's show for adults.

MYSTERY GUESTS

(We've had the worst luck, losing Abandoman AND Ed Gamble for this show, due to unexpected but urgent work commitments.)

The good news is the show still goes on! We will still be putting on a very special night of comedy with some amazing acts. Maybe they'll be some household TV names, or maybe they'll be new faces to you. Either way, you'll have an amazing night. You can trust us!

Cosimo Matasa 1.JPG

The Cosimo Matassa Project are a group of musicians who share a love of early rhythm and blues. They pay homage to legendary New Orleans record producer Cosimo Matassa (1926 - 2014) and the artists who passed through his studios, such as Fats Domino, Big Joe Turner, Dave Bartholomew and Alan Tussaint. The band attempt to capture the spirit, soulfulness and groove of the hundreds of great records that emerged from Cosimo's studios in the late 1940s and onwards.

THE CADILLAC KINGS

Cadillac studio2.JPG

They’re back, and it always sells out… so get in there quick…

Last year the Cadillac Kings’ latest cd (on Luton’s ‘33 Records’ label) continued to make inroads into US radio and, to the astonishment of the band, entered Cashbox Magazine’s Blues & Boogie Top 50 chart in early 2017, and remained there for 42 weeks, eventually reaching the number one spot in September, staying up there for 4 weeks, and holding off acts such as The Fabulous Thunderbirds, John Primer, Coco Montoya, Rick Estrin & The Nightcats, and Samantha Fish. The Cadillac Kings were the only UK act to figure in this American chart during the whole of 2017.

This year, 2018, has seen the band celebrate its 18th birthday with headline slots at blues & roots festivals across the UK, France, Germany and Scandinavia. They are delighted to be playing once again at one of their very favourite venues, the Bear Club - “the best jazz & juke joint this side of the Mississippi” (Mike Thomas)"

“Good time blues at its very best, do not miss these guys!”
- Lionel Ross, Blues in Britain Magazine

RYLANDS HEATH
Jack and James combine their keen ear for melody and knack for huge harmonies with a wide range of musical influences to create snappy, genre-bending tunes: ranging from gritty to outright anthemic. You can often hear their debut release “Do What” being played at Kenilworth Road the home of Luton FC.

SARA
Originally a solo act, Sara has evolved to encompass a bigger sound with the addition of three new members and increasingly diverse material. Citing influences as varied as Sufjan Stevens to Frank Ocean, their tone shifts around acoustic, electronic and indie genres, all the while maintaining something personal, with an unnerving vulnerability to their sound.

NICK BYRNE
Driven by a desire to create something lasting and beautiful, Nick Byrne’s live performance takes on an emotive, intimate tone. He has been seen supporting the likes of Declan McKenna (BBC Introducing artist of the year), Ben McKelvey, and The Lion & The Wolf (Xtra Mile Recordings).

RAVI AMRUTH
Having being exposed to music of the 70s and 80s from a young age, Ravi has always been interested in communicating ideas and emotions through sound. Along with guitar and bass, Ravi uses his strong, soulful voice as another tool in creating his music.

BBC INTRODUCING BEDS, HERTS & BUCKS present…

BBC Music Introducing in Beds, Herts & Bucks is back at The Bear Club in Luton for another amazing night of unsigned music chosen by BBC Music Introducing.

Bear Club Dec 18.jpg

JACK CULLEN
With just two releases under his belt, Hertfordshire based singer-songwriter Jack Cullen has already made a suitably impressive entrance to the scene with placements on Spotify’s New Music Friday as well as playing a sold-out show at The Troubadour. Having left the world of professional Rugby in Ireland, Jack returned to his hometown to broaden his horizons as an artist and songwriter. For two years in a row Jack has drawn huge crowds at our Standon Calling stage, his performance is not to be missed when he comes to The Bear Club.

ED THE DOG
High Wycombe musician Ed The Dog has already gained a huge interest from BBC Radio 1. His track Shame was featured on the BBC Radio 1 playlist towards the end of November and he’s received plays from both Jack Saunders and Huw Stephens. His debut album ‘Shame’ is a hook filled, lo-fi exploration into adulthood, anxiety and what it means to be a hopeless romantic in 2018. Dirty and homebrewed, it’s as uplifting and infectious as existential anxiety gets. Ed joins us at The Bear club for a special stripped back performance.
