PETER BILLINGTON QUINTET

THURSDAY 13 NOV

Exciting new quintet led by pianist/composer Pete Billington, performing a unique mix of originals and arrangements, including stripped down versions of compositions from his large ensemble ‘Nonentity’.

Built around an inventive piano trio (Andy Crowdy - Bass, Chris Nichols - Drums) and featuring the vocal talents of Brigitte Beraha and multi-reedist Will Gibson, the ensemble explores a wide range of material from arrangements of classical songs, symphonies and tangos, through to jazz standards and pop covers.

Originally training as a pianist at the Royal Academy, Pete initially became known to the UK jazz scene as the bass player for Clark Tracey’s New Quintet, with which he toured and recorded for 7 years. He went on to guest as a pianist in later incarnations of the band and has had the opportunity to perform with a wide array of British jazz stars including Alan Barnes, Nikki Iles, Peter King, Jim Mullen, Mark Nightingale, Gerard Presencer, Don Weller, Bobby Wellins and Kenny Wheeler, at venues such as the 606 club, Pizza Express Dean Street and Ronnie Scotts.
