ANGELINE MORRISON + SUPPORT

Ballad-maker for our time, Angeline Morrison, embarks on a spring tour featuring songs from her groundbreaking landmark album, The Sorrow Songs: Folk Songs of Black British Experience, as well as tracks from her newly released album, Ophelia, comprising 11 original compositions. Angeline describes each of these songs as an imprint of a feeling, a fugitive thought, a restless story... a spirit.

Angeline explores traditional song with deep reverence and a handmade sonic aesthetic. The Sorrow Songs album, released in October 2022, weaves history and imagination to narrate tales of UK Black ancestors in the sonic style of traditional folk music. This powerful record was crafted to honour the Black ancestors who lived in the British Isles and to offer a gift to the folk community.

The album garnered numerous accolades, including being named The Guardian’s number one folk album of the year in 2022.

Support for the show is provided by the fantastic local folk singer, Lizzie Hardingham.
