BEA ASURMENDI

Bea Asurmendi is a Basque-born, London-based vocalist and composer whose music blends contemporary jazz with the earthy textures of Basque and Iberian folk roots. Her music weaves rich harmonies, storytelling, and improvisation into an intimate yet expansive live experience.

Drawing from her acclaimed debut album Asteartea—sung in Basque, Spanish, and English—Asurmendi explores shared stories of womanhood inspired by goddess mythology, creating a powerful and atmospheric soundworld that is both personal and universal.

A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and a recipient of the Help Musicians UK Next Level Award, Bea has performed at leading UK venues including PizzaExpress Jazz Club, the 606 Club, Jazz in the Round, the Soho Jazz Festival, and the EFG London Jazz Festival for two consecutive years. In 2023, she opened for Ari Hoenig at Milton Court Concert Hall, returning in 2024 with a sold-out headline show.

As part of the Asteartea tour, she has presented her music internationally at venues such as the Guggenheim Museum, Coliseo Theatre, and Altxerri Jazz Club. Her music and performances have been featured on BBC Radio 3, One Jazz Radio, Jazz FM, and Basque National Television.

Her band comprises: Bea Asurmendi (vocals), Giovanni Cresseri (bass), Gianluca Corona (guitar), Milena Granci (piano), Filippo Galli (drums).

A timely debut by a global star-in-waiting. An otherworldly sonic universe.
— Songlines
A beautifully mature and explorative work with real range, not only in the exploration of difficult topics but also in the soundworld itself. Asurmendi has a distinctive sensitivity.
— UK Jazz News
Bea’s essence lies in every single musical moment of this stunning album. Her voice is sincere and honest in a disarming way: strong and pure at the same time.
