Dan Costa has performed on six continents and we’re thrilled that he is bringing his project to Luton for the first time.
Having recorded with the likes of John Patitucci, Ivan Lins, Randy Brecker, Mike Stern, Dave Liebman, Roberto Menescal and other legends, Dan Costa’s award-winning and critically-acclaimed music reflects his mixed cultural background (his parents are Italian and Portuguese respectively) as well as his appreciation of the natural environment, which has informed his artistic philosophy.
A musician, educator and writer, he plays beautiful lyrical jazz piano which has sometimes been compared to Bill Evans or Chick Corea in feel. He brings his Latin heritage to bear on his latest album Beams which features several Brazilian players.
For his upcoming UK dates, Costa will be joined by two British musicians who are well known to The Bear Club audience: Rod Oughton (drums), a prolific bandleader and composer whose projects include Tomorrow’s New Quartet (who have played The Bear Club twice in recent years). His music has been featured on Jazz FM and BBC Radio 3.
On bass, Pete Komor, a dynamic and versatile double bassist known for his strong groove, lyrical playing, and work across the UK jazz scene with his group ‘Howl Quartet’ (who played The Bear Club in 2023) as well as extensive side-man appearances with artists such as Javier Zalba (Buena Vista Social Club).
Perfect jazz for a summer’s evening.
“His virtuosity is evident, but he uses it very sparingly, and all his famous guests are in the same zone...less notes but a lot of lovely, heartfelt, emotional, music.”
“ …a haunting, poetic album where Costa’s melodic lyricism dances like dappled rays.”
