The London based, multi-national, Redtenbacher’s Funkestra is the brainchild of bassist, composer and producer Stefan Redtenbacher. This original and mostly instrumental wall-to-wall jazz funk collective of world class players has about 20 releases to their name - notably ‘The Hang’ which reached number one in the weekly top 50 Funk album chart according to the Roots Music Report.
They have recorded with a 'who's who' of the international jazz funk and fusion scene including legends like Fred Wesley, Alfred ‘Pee Wee’ Ellis from James Brown’s band, Stephen ‘Doc’ Kupka, Lee Thornburg and Lenny Pickett from Tower of Power, Prince’s New Power Generation horn section (aka ‘The Hornheads’) and horn players from Incognito, Brand New Heavies and, many many more.
Tonight the Funkestra features superb Austin, Texas-based guitarist Carter Arrington and together they present ‘The Exchange’: a new guitar-driven jazz-funk fusion project powered by deep grooves, bold improvisation and explosive live chemistry. Following the success of last year’s 30-year anniversary Funkopia tour, this gig is part of a limited-run UK tour launching the forthcoming collaborative album from Stefan Redtenbacher and Carter Arrington, pairing new material with selected Funkestra highlights.
Expect a night of super-tight, super-funky jazz fusion from some of the best in the business.
“I want you to check out Stefan and his Funk Orchestra. He is giving up the funk and he keeps giving up the funk. Ooh funk me mama, yeah baby. Funk you.”
“Stefan Redtenbacher remains one of the most prominent composers, producers and all-round bass monsters in the UK.”
