We’re excited to welcome the Sam Newbould Quintet to The Bear during their UK tour to showcase new music for their third studio album, which is due for release next year. This award-winning five-piece consists of an international lineup hailing from the UK, Spain, Israel and the Netherlands.
Based in Amsterdam, the quintet won the prestigious Keep an Eye Records jazz competition in 2019, and were selected artists at the InJazz Showcase Festival 2021. Their sound mixes the melodic lyricism of jazz and folk with progressive rock energy and explosive improvisations.
Their last album, Bogus Notus, was inspired by the wildness of the Northern English landscape, and has received international praise. The group have been invited to perform at Europe’s top stages and festivals, including Love Supreme Festival, the Vortex, BIMHUIS and Amsterdam Jazz Festival.
The lineup includes Sam Newbould (alto saxophone), Bernard van Rossum (tenor saxophone), Xavi Torres (piano), Jort Terwijn (bass) and Guy Salamon (drums).
