TBC introduces… Soulful Sundays
Ahead of the first in a series of spring and summer Sunday afternoon gigs, which we've called Soulful Sundays, we met up with Richie Tee, the local DJ and promoter who is curating these events.
What are Soulful Sundays, and what can people expect from these events?
Soulful Sundays are a brand new experience - an opportunity to get together once a month at this iconic club and dance to some fabulous soul, funk, jazz-funk, boogie, and rare groove.
As well as amazing DJ sets, there will also be 75-minute live performances from stellar artists across the soul, funk, and jazz scene, along with your chance to get to know the artists a little more with live Q&As.
When do Soulful Sundays take place?
Soulful Sundays take place on the last Sunday of each month across spring and early summer 2026 at The Bear Club. Our inaugural event takes place on Sunday 26 April, from 2pm until 7pm.
What makes Soulful Sundays different from other daytime events?
Soulful Sundays are different because they fuse a club vibe with live music plus a Q&A. The vision is to create an afternoon mingle for an audience who just want to come out on a Sunday afternoon to dance and have a good time, and still be home in the early evening for supper.
You get to a certain age where you don't want to be in London late at night, so an afternoon show with dancing will hopefully be an appealing option.
What kind of music will be played throughout the afternoon?
Soulful Sundays will feature music that you may not hear at every event you go to these days. Of course, there will be the more recognisable tunes, even a few bangers, but the DJs are carefully selected for their personalities and excellent knowledge of the jazz, funk, and soul genres.
Who is the featured artist for the launch event?
The vision for Soulful Sundays is to bring vibrant, uplifting artists to the club, so it was always at the forefront of my mind to bring Natasha Watts back to The Bear Club.
She always puts on a fabulous show and brings a stellar band who will be the perfect act to kick the series off.
Can you tell us more about guest DJ Paul Hyatt?
I have known Paul for a few years now; he has an amazing repertoire of tunes to spin. The very first time I heard him play, he spun some tunes I hadn't heard for years, so he was the obvious choice for this inaugural event.
Who else have you got coming up?
We've got some great artists coming up. Next up after Natasha Watts, we have the tremendous Acantha Lang on 31 May, Dean Mark on 28 June, and we have a very special end to this series with the fantastic Selina Albright and her new supergroup NW FRQNC.
It will be the same format and timings for all of the four events - we start at 2pm and go through to close at 7pm with a mixture of DJ sets, live music, and a Q&A.
How can people get tickets?
You can book tickets for Soulful Sundays directly from The Bear Club’s website. It's always good to book in advance as we can't always guarantee tickets on the door. These artists usually perform on some pretty big stages, so to have them perform in the very intimate surroundings of The Bear Club is a real privilege for us.
I really do hope to see lots of you there, making friends, enjoying the vibe, and celebrating amazing music at this iconic venue.
