ANDREA RINCIARI QUARTET FEAT. ALEX GARNETT

Andrea Rinciari is a world-class guitarist whose tireless dedication to the traditions of bebop and straight-ahead has led him to specialise in mid-20th century jazz.

Originally from a small town just outside Milan, he honed his craft in London under the mentorship of the legendary Barry Harris. He has crafted his sound by pushing the boundaries of the guitar, resulting in a unique blend of innovation and tradition.

Andrea joins us with his quartet in support of their new album, Soho Sessions, which is all about celebrating the jazz he loves, the musicians he admires, and the joy of playing together.

The album is a reflection of a really special time for Andrea. For months, he had the chance to play weekly sessions in Soho with some of his favourite musicians. Each week, they would focus on something different—whether it was music by Bud Powell, Charlie Parker, or Tadd Dameron, or classics from the American Songbook. The nights were all about exploring, learning, and connecting with the music and the audience.

The tracks they recorded are taken from that repertoire—some are straight from the sessions, while others are arrangements Andrea came up with while preparing for the gigs. The vibe of the album is very much rooted in bebop and straight-ahead jazz, with plenty of groove, interplay, and swing. They recorded the whole thing in five hours at the Fish Factory in North London.

Andrea will be joined by Alex Garnett (tenor saxophone), Lorenzo Morabito (double bass), and Mark Taylor (drums).

On To Bud, Rinciari is able to reflect the gentleness and beloved bounce of Bud Powell’s piano playing beautifully. His solos are thoughtful and creative and capture elements of Powell’s genius
