Eschewing predictable or rigid jazz forms, Bede Quartet draws inspiration from Northumbrian and Scandinavian folk, blending strong melodies with a collectively fluid approach to improvisation.
These musicians are no strangers to genre fusion, each frequently touring and performing with artists across different genres.
Initially formed as a drumless trio in 2021, the group has developed a uniquely cohesive voice. They have grown together first as friends, incidentally as artists, maturing into a sound that’s always evolving with honesty and without ego.
They’ll be showcasing material from their debut album, which was recorded over a few days in rural Northumberland.
Featuring Michael Bede Dunlop (double bass), Finn Carter (piano), Albert Hills Wright (alto sax), and Dillon Harrison (drums).
“Jazz-folk, folk-jazz, jazz-infused folk, folk-infused jazz... labels, don’t you just love ‘em? Keep an eye out - and an ear open - for Michael Dunlop”
“Finn Carter is much in demand as a sideman for a lot of very prominent contemporary acts… has an ear for melody”
