BRIGID MAE POWER

We are delighted to welcome Brigid Mae Power to The Bear Club. London-born but brought up in Galway, Power sings dreamy pop with a hauntingly beautiful voice whilst her music is a unique marriage of the traditional and the very modern.

Her voice has something of the dream-like quality of (say) Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star), Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins) or even Tracey Thorn (Everything But The Girl) while musical influences range from traditional Irish music to American country & western, bluegrass, jazz and vintage pop. She sings breath-taking songs filled with personal tales of the lovelorn and the lost all the while underpinned by her gorgeous vocal.

Politically primed and socially aware, the Irish musician has found power in her extraordinary voice and been able to embroider it into a musical tapestry across five studio albums including this year’s ’Songs For You’ an album of gorgeous cover versions dedicated to her father from Neil Young and Roy Orbison to Bert Jansch and Waylon Jennings.

The Irish singer-songwriter flits between past and present; between traditional and modern forms; between the heaven in her voice and the earthbound epiphanies of her words

‘Songs for You’ is a timeless record filled with brilliant moments that will melt the heart of even the most cynically covers-album-averse listener.
