We’re delighted to welcome this absolutely stellar line-up to The Bear Club to celebrate one of the all-time classic jazz records - the 1963 album “John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman” on which Coltrane teamed up with vocalist Johnny Hartman to explore their favourite romantic standards.
Tenor sax virtuoso Mark Lockheart was famously part of two of the UK’s finest jazz ensembles in Loose Tubes in the 1980s and Polar Bear in the 2000s and his own group Perfect Houseplants.
Marvin Muoneké is sometimes called 'The Young Man with The Old Soul’ and once you hear his voice you'll understand why. Likened to Nat King Cole, Johnny Hartman himself and Billy Eckstine, he is a gifted songwriter, arranger and trumpet player.
Gary Crosby OBE is a leading jazz double bassist, bandleader, composer/arranger, educator and much more. He was a founding member of the Jazz Warriors and is the Founder and Artistic Director of Tomorrow’s Warriors, providing a platform for talented young musicians pursuing a career in jazz.
Alfonso Vitale is a top-drawer jazz and classical percussionist. Originally from Messina in Sicily he is one of the most in-demand drummers in London today and played at The Bear Club last with Andrea Rinciari.
As well as the songs from the album released on Impulse, the group explores other standards that Coltrane loved to play, including All Or Nothing At All, Out Of This World, Say It Again and a special vocal version of Moment's Notice.
The original album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2013, 50 years after its release.
“Marvin Muoneké is a vocal sensation.”
“…maintains the consistently high standards we have come to expect from one of the UK’s most talented musicians”
