Vasilis Xenopoulos and Paul Edis are both very well-known to Bear Club audiences but this is the first time they have played here together with their jointly-led quartet.
They began playing together over 20 years ago, when they had both relocated to West London to study. Originally from Greece, Vasilis had just finished studying at Berklee College in the US, whilst Paul had moved south from the North-east of England. In the intervening years they’ve played numerous gigs together, releasing their first album in 2016, entitled A Narrow Escape to critical acclaim. Their latest recording features original music inspired by the many places they’ve called home over the years.
Released in April 2024 on the Ubuntu label, ‘Feels Like Home’ also received glowing reviews from around the world and the band has toured the UK with more dates planned for 2025.
At once both fresh and swinging, the album combines a contemporary approach to the finest traditions of the post-bop jazz quartet.
Line-up: Paul Edis (piano), Vasilis Xenopoulos (saxophone), Mirko Scarcia (bass), Billy Pod (drums).
“World-class !”
